MASCHA DABIĆ was born 1981 in Sarajevo and emigrated with her parents to Austria in 1992. Translation Studies (English and Russian) und Political Science at the University of Vienna. PhD in Translation Studies in 2017.

She works as a simultaneous translator (Dolmetscherin) for Asylum seekers and for international conferences since 2010 and is a senior lecturer for Simultaneous Translation Praxis at the University of Vienna.

Since 2015, she serves as Chair of the Association of Simultaneous Translators.

In 2016, she debuted with her novel Reibungsverluste, in which she tells about one day in the life of a translator who works in the office of a psychotherapist for refugees. This novel was nominated for the prestigious Franz-Tumler-Literature Prize and made the short list for the Austrian Bookprize “Debüt.”

In addition, Mascha Dabić translates literature from Serbo-Croation into German such as the works of Barbi Marković, Vladan Matijević, Srđan Valjarević, Jelena Mijović, Jelena Lengold, and Marija Knežević.

In April 2018, she was a participating author in the Third Austrian-American Podium Dialog at Lafayette
College, Easton, PA and gave a literature reading at the Austrian Cultural Forum New York.
