In celebration of the 10th Anniversary of the Max Kade Center for German Studies, Theodore Ziolkowski, Prof. Emeritus at Princeton Univ., will present the 2013 Max Kade Distinguished Lecture entitled “Duerrenmatt: The World of His Imagination in Word and Image.” Friedrich Duerrenmatt (1921-2000) is well known for his plays and dramaturgical work. The fact that he also was a gifted painter who created many exceptional pieces of art is not commonly known. In 1978, introducing the first illustrated volume of his art works, Duerrenmatt wrote: “My drawings are not subsidiary to my literary works; they are the drawn and painted battlefields on which my literary struggles, adventures, experiments and defeats take place.”
